Board of Canvassers Certifies Election Results; Audit Results Reported

(Boise, Idaho) – Secretary of State Phil McGrane, Controller Brandon Woolf, and Treasurer Julie Ellsworth, as the Idaho Board of Canvassers, canvassed the results of the 2026 Idaho Primary Election today at the Idaho State Capitol. The Board also heard a report on the recent post-election audits conducted in eight randomly selected counties.

Election Results Canvass

The Board of Canvassers convenes after each election to officially verify that every ballot cast has been accurately counted and reported, as required by Idaho law. Election data from the canvass shows 312,140 Idahoans voted in the primary election, with a final turnout of approximately 30% of registered voters. Voter turnout data by county is available on VoteIdaho.gov. Election results, including the canvass reports, can be found on the Election Results page of VoteIdaho.gov.

Post-Election Audit

Post-election audits were conducted in Ada, Butte, Canyon, Franklin, Gooding, Lemhi, Owyhee, and Power Counties between June 1st and June 5th. Teams from the Idaho Secretary of State’s office and Boise State University accounting students conducted a hand count of results in precincts and ballot batches selected at random by the Board of Canvassers before the audits. Hand counts matched canvassed results in nearly all cases. Where minor discrepancies occurred, they primarily involved voter check-in records rather than vote tallies.

Secretary Phil McGrane expressed his gratitude and confidence in the integrity of Idaho’s election process, stating, “Every election is built on months of work by election officials who are committed to serving their communities and ensuring every eligible vote is counted accurately. The successful election and strong audit results reflect the professionalism, care, and dedication of Idaho’s county clerks and election teams. Their work should give Idahoans confidence in our elections and pride in the public servants who make them possible.”
