(Boise, Idaho) – Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane issued a statement following the recent Idaho Supreme Court decision regarding Yes/No statements for Proposition One to be included on Idaho ballots and in the Idaho Voter Pamphlet.
“Today is the deadline to begin printing absentee ballots for Idaho’s largest counties. It is truly remarkable that the case regarding Proposition 1 language was put before the Supreme Court and resolved in less than two weeks, and over a holiday weekend no less,” said Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane. “I appreciate the extraordinary effort by everyone involved, including the Supreme Court, the Attorney General’s Office, and Idahoans United for Women & Families, to reach a resolution in time for us to meet critical election deadlines. It shows everyone’s commitment to the voters of Idaho, even when we may disagree. With this issue resolved, we are focused on ensuring a smooth election. There is still a tremendous amount of work ahead of us and the counties, from preparing ballots to getting them into the hands of Idaho voters, and we’re ready to get it done.”
The November 3 General Election is only 55 days away, and many of the most important election deadlines are much closer. The statutory deadline to begin mailing ballots is just 10 days away, on September 19. Election officials across Idaho are actively preparing ballots, processing absentee ballot requests, and completing all the testing to ensure Idahoans are ready to vote.
“We are committed to a smooth and secure election in November,” Secretary McGrane continued. “Whether Idahoans choose to vote absentee, vote early, or head to the polls on Election Day, they can be confident their ballot will be handled securely, and every eligible vote will be counted.”
