(Boise, Idaho) – Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane announced today that ballots cast in early voting and absentee for the November 5th General Election have already surpassed the total ballots cast statewide in the May 21st primary earlier this year.
Idaho Voter participation is expected to reach historic levels. Early voting continues through Friday, November 1st, and absentee ballots may be returned through 8 pm on Election Day. A breakdown of current voting data shows:
- Total Ballots Cast: As of Wednesday morning, 293,443 ballots had been cast in the Idaho 2024 General Election. This exceeds the total number of ballots statewide in the May 21, 2024 primary election, with 281,777 ballots cast.
- By Party: Of the ballots cast in early voting and absentee, 63% were registered Republican, 21% unaffiliated,16% Democratic, Libertarian 0.6% and Constitution 0.2%.
- Early Voting vs. Absentee Voting: 155,113 ballots have been cast during early voting so far. 138,330 absentee ballots have been returned to Elections offices, with a return rate of 73%.
“With Idahoans showing up in large numbers for early voting and absentee, we are on the path to a historic turnout for the November 5th General Election,” said Secretary McGrane. “I encourage every eligible voter to make a plan, whether it’s early voting through Friday, returning an absentee ballot, or heading to the polls on Election Day.”
Voters who requested absentee ballots should return them to their county elections office or use an official ballot drop box by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 5th. It is now too late to mail absentee ballots to guarantee arrival by the deadline on Election Day.
